37 was the final egg count; we received 19 of those as primary couple in a split cycle.
17 were mature
10 fertilized normally
All are snuggled up in the incubator and the embryologist is planning on a 5 day transfer as of now!!! That would put our transfer date on Monday, the Fourth of July! We have never made it to a 5DT, so please pray that our embabies grow!
Don't get me wrong because this is the furthest we have ever come...but is 10 our of 17 normal?? I just figured that since they did ICSI on every egg that we would have a few more. I am not being greedy, I just know all too well that the number can dwindle drastically by the time we get to the transfer. We haven't spoken to the embryologist directly, but we kind of figured that it was Andy's sperm. Who knows. We'll see!
All I know is that we are extremely grateful and excited to be at this point. We have 10 embabies y'all! I have continued taking estrogen three times/day, and we started progesterone-in-oil (PIO) injections yesterday. So far my butt is surviving, but I have a feeling that it will start bruising and lumping up soon. Andy gives a good injection though...I can barely feel it! We'll be heading down to Charleston tomorrow to get away from work stress and wait everything out.
We have always done a 3 day transfer which normally puts the embryo in the 8-cell range. Our embryos have always looked like this:
After 5 days, they have developed further into a blastocyst, which looks like this:
This will start to hatch towards day 6, and the ICM will develop into the fetus, and the TE will form the placenta.
Pretty cool, huh?
I'm a dork.
Maybe I need to get out of oncology nursing and become an infertility nurse. Hmmmm.
Thank you all for the sweet comments and prayers. Keep them coming! :)

Ummm...hey Ellie...
Awesome news!!!
Praising God!! And continuing to pray for a wonderful outcome!! You and Andy are so precious and we love y'all so much!!
That is a wonderful report! I don't think I will ever hear such lovely news. Last time we had 9 follies, 6 eggs, and two embryos. The RE was surprised we managed to get 2 because of DH's sperm. When they were transferred on day 3, I had a 4 cell and a 6 cell. :-( I would love to try using his brothers sperm, but the law in Germany is that we must be a married couple and only use my eggs and my husbands sperm. It melts my heart to hear such wonderful news for you! I hope that they all make it to day 5 and you have a healthy group to freeze as well. As we say in Germany, Viel Glück!
Holy crikeys! That is the best news! My embryologist indicated that it is usually the sperm even with ICSI that causes some of them not to fertilize. *usually* being the key word there! I think you are in great shape right now!
great news, although I think we are always wanting those "perfect" results (whatever the hell that even means). I am hoping for 10 little embryos. Keep us posted and hang in there. I am hoping you feel better when those embryos are safe and sound inside of you.
great report! praying for you!!
Great news!! We did ICSI and not all were fertilized. Praying!!
Great report! I am super excited for you! Not all of ours fertilized with ICSI either. They told us that just like in someone who gets pregnant on their own, not every egg that is released will 1. meet sperm and 2. fertilize normally - it is just how it goes. 10 is an awesome number, and the 4th is a wonderful day to do ET - you would get fireworks to celebrate!
That's so awesome! Yay! Fingers crossed and positive thoughts!
And I loved the embryo display at the bottom, I didn't know all that about the areas. That's so cool!
10 embies is AWESOME! Not sure on what the fert % *should* be, but I still say WOO HOOOO!!!!
Crossing everything for you fantastic day five transfer!!!
10 embryos is great! I understand what you mean about the attrition rate, but we started out with 13 embryos (donor egg) and still ended up with 2 to transfer and 4 to freeze. SoO I think you will be OK.
Good luck to you! Here's hoping those embryos continue to divide and thrive!
That is fantastic! Seriously! I can't wait to hear how the tranfer goes! Good luck!
Happy 4th of July transfer, freedom from IF would be a very fitting way to celebrate!!! Hoping and praying that is exactly what happens for you!
